One dead after plane emergency landing on Canadian road

One person is dead after a light aircraft made an emergency landing on a busy road in British Columbia, Canada. The incident occurred on Foothills Boulevard at around 2:20pm on Thursday, August 20, and involved two other cars.

According to Canadian police, one person in one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. In total, 10 people were hurt in the crash, with two of them hospitalised, emergency workers said. The extent of the injuries received by occupants of the second car involved is not yet known.

Police confirm fatality

“Police are saddened to confirm that there has been one fatality in this incident, an occupant of one of the vehicles,” a Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson said, according to CBC. “Any potential injuries to the other vehicle occupants as well as those on board the plane are currently unknown.”

Investigation launched

An investigation has been launched by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Foothills Boulevard is on the outskirts of Prince George, a city roughly nine hours’ drive north of Vancouver in rural Canada.

The road remains closed as of Friday and will likely be shut for a long period of time to allow investigations to continue.
