Murder Probe After Violent Death in Ashton-under-Lyne

Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in his early 30s at a bar in Ashton-under-Lyne. Officers were called to Blues bar on Bow Street at approximately 2:40am after reports of an assault. The victim was found with serious injuries and later died at the scene.

Arrest Made in Connection with the Incident

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. Police believe the attack was an isolated incident and poses no wider threat to the public.

Detective Superintendent Ian McNabb described the attack as "violent and shocking" and confirmed that detectives are working "at pace" to establish the full circumstances. He stated: "This was a violent and shocking attack that tragically took the life of a young man."

Victim Identification and Family Support

While formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of the believed victim have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A police cordon remains in place at the scene.

McNabb added: "We currently have a man in our custody and a scene is still in place at this time. We would also like to reassure the community we believe this to be an isolated attack and poses no wider threat to the public."

Appeal for Information

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. This includes anyone who witnessed the attack or has any footage from the area that may assist the investigation. McNabb said: "As we are still in the early stages of our investigation, we are appealing for anyone who may have information to please come forward and report. This can be anyone who may have witnessed the incident itself, or has any footage from the area that may support our enquiries."
