Mum's heartbreak as teen's killer still not caught after 3 years

The mother of a 17-year-old boy fatally stabbed at a party in London more than three years ago is still waiting for justice, as his killer has not been caught. Claudyo Jauad Lafayette was knifed to death at a party in Granville Road, Brent, in July 2023. A £20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction has been offered by Crimestoppers.

Charity set up in teen's memory

Claudyo's mother, Yzakia Jauad, 46, has now set up a charity in his memory, the CB'S WORLD Foundation Charity, which provides bleeding control kits and supports families impacted by knife crime. The Express previously reported that Yzakia had to have a closed casket funeral after a fly laid eggs inside her son's face, disfiguring his corpse.

Yzakia said: "Over these past three years, our family has carried a deep, lasting grief. Knife crime leaves wounds that time cannot fully heal, and the absence of Claudyo remains with us every single day."

She added: "This experience has taught us a hard, vital truth, this can happen to anyone. It does not matter who you are, where you come from, your circumstances, or your place in life and success. None of us are immune as long as we are alive, as long as we step out of our homes, no one is completely safe from this pain."

Foundation's first steps

Yzakia said that while running her organisation, she remains fully committed to ensuring justice is done for her son. She said: "My business partner Siobhan Hennessey and I will be running and developing the foundation across London and Sheffield. For now, our focus in London is on Camden and Kilburn, while my colleague will be covering different parts of Sheffield."

She added: "Among our first practical steps, we have been placing bleeding control kits in schools, community centres, youth clubs, and any other location where they are welcomed and needed."

However, she emphasised that she had funded all of this work personally, adding that the burden "should not fall on grieving families". Yzakia said: "We should be able to focus on our loss and walking our own journey of healing, instead of feeling we have to step in to fill gaps that should be supported by public bodies."

Investigation ongoing

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation, said: "The investigation into Claudyo Lafayette's death remains on-going. Despite extensive efforts by police, those responsible have not been identified and no further arrests have been made. Crimestoppers are offering a £20,000 reward for anyone with relevant information or footage which leads to conviction. We urge witnesses to come forward. We will continue our enquiries to get justice for Claudyo's family."

A Government spokesperson previously said: "Claudyo Lafayette's death was a tragedy, and our thoughts are with his family and friends. Too many young lives are lost each year to knife crime. This government is determined to halve knife crime within a decade. We are pursuing this mission relentlessly, and already knife crime has fallen by 9% under this government."
