Mum shot in front of baby in Peckham Christmas Eve attack

A young mother is fighting for her life in hospital after being shot multiple times inside her south-east London home, with her one-year-old son present during the horrific attack.

Shocking Violence on Christmas Eve

The incident occurred at around 11pm on Wednesday, 24 December, at a property on Cronin Street in Peckham. According to the Metropolitan Police, two men wearing hooded clothing approached the front door of the house and fired at least seven rounds through the closed door.

The victim, who was inside with her infant son, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to hospital via ambulance and spent Christmas in a critical care unit, where she remains in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Jordan Gardner, leading the investigation, stated: "This was a shocking act of violence, carried out at a family home where a young child was present. It is vital we identify those responsible and ensure justice for the victim."

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Miraculously, the one-year-old boy was not physically harmed during the shooting. The two suspects fled the scene on foot in the direction of Commercial Way.

Police are urgently appealing for information from the public. Detective Inspector Gardner added: "We know there will be people who saw or heard something that could help us. Even if the information seems minor, please come forward."

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Cronin Street, Commercial Way, or Moody Road areas between 21:45 and 23:45hrs on the night of the attack.

Recent Spate of Gun Violence in South London

This brutal shooting came just two days after another firearms incident in nearby Bermondsey. In that attack, on Sunday, 21 December, a man and a woman, both in their 30s, were shot near the Southernwood Retail Park.

Both victims were treated at the scene for gunshot wounds - the man to the shoulder and the woman to the leg - before being taken to hospital. The Metropolitan Police confirmed their injuries were non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

The road, Oxley Close, was sealed off as police launched an investigation into that separate shooting.
