Motorcyclist jailed for 160mph wheelies and crash

Reckless rider sentenced after filming high-speed stunts

Thames Valley Police have released footage of a motorcyclist who raced through Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire at speeds of up to 160mph while filming himself, resulting in a horrific crash. Lewis Baker, 35, was sentenced to 15 months in prison and banned from driving for 10 years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

Footage shows dangerous manoeuvres

The video, believed to be from a chest-mounted camera, shows Baker weaving in and out of traffic on a dual carriageway with his speedometer reading 144mph. He then performs wheelies on a single-carriageway road while the dashboard shows speeds exceeding 100mph. At one point, he squeezes between two cars travelling in opposite directions, hugging the centre line in a near-miss. On a country lane with double white lines, he overtakes traffic by crossing to the wrong side of the road at dangerous speeds. He later passes a line of traffic and veers into the middle of the right-hand lane to race through temporary traffic lights.

Crash and aftermath

Moments later, the footage flips dramatically as the rider crashes at high speed. A bystander is heard shouting, “Call 999”. Police shared the video as a warning, stating: “Lewis Baker, 35, rode through Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire at speeds of up to 160mph while filming his dangerous riding to share with others. He has now been sentenced to 15 months in prison and banned from driving for 10 years. No stunt is worth a life. Ride responsibly.”
