A devastating shooting spree across three homes in a small Mississippi town on Friday evening has left six people dead, including a seven-year-old girl, according to local authorities.
A Community in Shock
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott described the incident as one of the toughest his department has faced in nearly three decades of service. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Daricka M. Moore, allegedly carried out systematic attacks at three separate residences in the town of West Point. Sheriff Scott stated the violence has left the community deeply shaken.
Details of the Deadly Attacks
The rampage began with a break-in where Moore is alleged to have attempted a sexual battery. It was at this property that deputies later discovered the body of the young girl, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Following this, the suspect is said to have fled the scene in a stolen pickup truck, driving to a home on Griffin Road. There, police found two men dead from gunshot wounds to the head. They were later identified as Barry Bradley and Samuel Bradley.
Massive Manhunt and Arrest
A large coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the US Park Service, and the US Marshals, collaborated to track down the suspect. Moore was arrested while still driving the stolen truck and was booked into the Clay County jail at 3:25 am on Saturday.
He currently faces a charge of first-degree murder. Sheriff Scott confirmed that the motive for the horrific acts remains unknown, and a full investigation involving all partner agencies is ongoing. He cautioned that information is subject to change as the inquiry progresses.
