A man who was being pursued by police after driving 'dangerously' on the M56 was struck and killed by another driver who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs, police have said.
Incident details
The M56 in Greater Manchester was closed in both directions on Saturday (October 17) after a horror crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle.
Greater Manchester Police has said officers were initially pursuing a man on a red motorbike after noticing he was driving in "a dangerous manner" on the M60 around Stockport Pyramid. After officers pursued and brought the bike to a stop between junctions 3 and 4 on the M56, the bike rider made off on foot across the motorway where he was then struck by another vehicle.
Arrest made
The force said the driver of that car, who was not involved in the initial pursuit, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs and causing death by driving uninsured.
