Calvert-Lewin: Leeds Not Surprised by Man United Change

Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has said his team were not surprised by Manchester United matching their formation in the Premier League clash at Elland Road. The 1-1 draw extended United's winless run to six games in all competitions.

Michael Carrick's side took the lead in the 35th minute through Bryan Mbeumo, but Calvert-Lewin equalised in the 51st minute. Both teams pushed for a winner, but the game ended level.

Calvert-Lewin's Assessment

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Calvert-Lewin believed it could have been worse for United had his side shown more quality in the final third.

"I think we could've played with a bit more quality in the final third, particularly in the first half," he said. "We were getting good quality in the box but just not enough numbers."

"We made sure in the second half we came out with more confidence going forward. I think we were unlucky not to win the game."

Formation Match-Up

On United's tactical approach, Calvert-Lewin added: "They tried to [match us up formation-wise]. Not surprised given what happened last season. They were probably looking at our physical output and the way we liked to play and tried to go man-for-man."

"It took us a little bit to adjust to it, but I don't think it was too difficult to adjust. It was more down to us and maybe a lack of quality in the final third."

Context and Next Fixture

Leeds won 2-1 at Old Trafford last season thanks to two early goals from Noah Okafor, with Casemiro scoring a consolation for United. The latest result leaves United in 13th place in the Premier League table, having won just one of their seven games this season. They face Como away in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with a 5.45pm kick-off.
