A serious crash on the M9 southbound near Falkirk caused the motorway to be fully closed during rush hour, leading to hour-long traffic delays. Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions six and seven at around 7:45am on 14 July 2026.
Motorway Closure and Emergency Response
The M9 southbound was fully closed following the collision as police, ambulance, and other emergency crews responded. Motorists faced queues of more than 71 minutes during the morning commute, with transport between the Forth Valley and Edinburgh effectively halted.
Photos taken by a passenger in a passing vehicle show the aftermath of the crash. A supermarket HGV is visible next to a white car with a smashed front end. Another image shows a black car with rear-end damage, while an ambulance is parked behind the lorry with blue lights flashing.
Details of the Incident
It is not yet known how many vehicles were involved in the collision or if anyone was injured. Traffic Scotland updated commuters on social media shortly after the incident, stating: "The M9 southbound between junction 6-7 is currently closed due to a road traffic collision. Emergency services are on scene. Traffic queueing on approach with delays of approx. 71 mins. Alternative routes should be used currently."
Road Reopened
Traffic Scotland later confirmed that the road has since reopened. Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were contacted for comment but have not yet provided further details.
