Three people were taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the M61 southbound carriageway between junctions three and four on Sunday, July 12. Police, fire crews, and paramedics rushed to the scene after the crash, which left one car with a crushed bumper and extensive damage.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that three individuals were transported to hospital from the incident site. Authorities indicated that their injuries were not believed to be serious. Images from the scene showed multiple police vehicles in attendance, with one car visibly crushed and badly damaged.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) stated: “At just before 2pm this afternoon (Sunday 12 July), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M61 south bound between junctions 3-4. Three fire engines from Bolton Central and Whitefield, and an enhanced rescue unit from Ashton-under-Lyne quickly attended the incident which involved two vehicles.”
Rescue Operations and Road Disruption
Upon arrival, firefighters used stabilising equipment to assist two casualties from one of the vehicles. Crews were detained at the scene for approximately fifty minutes. Lanes on the southbound carriageway were closed to facilitate the emergency response, causing temporary disruption for motorists.
