Love Island has received a record number of Ofcom complaints for its current season, with 533 lodged between Thursday, July 2 and Monday, July 6, according to the broadcasting regulator. The complaints center on alleged bullying and editorial bias during the show's popular Movie Night segment.
Movie Night sparks backlash
Sunday's episode (July 5) attracted the most complaints, with 197 viewers raising concerns about what they described as “alleged editorial bias towards Jasmine.” The segment, which reveals private conversations among Islanders, focused heavily on Jasmine's relationships. Clips like 'The Affair' scrutinized her connection with Lorenzo, while 'The Princess Jasmine Diaries' exposed her plan to bring Casa Amor's Jordon into the main villa by convincing Priya to couple up with him.
Fans also expressed sympathy for Priya, who watched clips of her close friend Mica scheming to steal her then-boyfriend Samraj. In a poignant moment, Priya said: “I look like a mug all the time.”
Additional complaints across episodes
On Thursday (July 2), 167 complaints were filed regarding “alleged bullying of Priya and Kavan by Mica and Jasmine, as well as Julia's use of offensive language.” That episode featured the Casa Amor recoupling, where Priya brought Jordon back, unaware of his interest in Jasmine. Viewers were shocked when newcomer Julia called Jasmine a “b****.”
Monday (July 6) saw 94 complaints about “alleged controlling and abusive behaviour by Jasmine towards Kavan.” Meanwhile, 75 complaints on Friday (July 3) targeted “alleged bullying by Lola towards Julia, as well as alleged controlling and abusive behaviour by Jasmine.” Lola had confronted Julia for showing interest in her partner Sean during Casa Amor.
ITV has been approached for comment. Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
