A Gateshead woman has appeared in court accused of dangerous driving after allegedly travelling in her car with a fogged-up windscreen. Kudirat Yusuff was behind the wheel of a Mercedes when police officers stopped her on a road in Whickham, Gateshead.
Alleged driving incidents
The court heard that the 30-year-old, who had no insurance or licence, was allegedly seen crossing lanes, flouting a red light and driving excessively slowly along Whickham Bank. When stopped, she is accused of being unable to see through her windscreen as it was "all fogged up".
Yusuff, of Bramwell Court, in Teams, Gateshead, appeared in the dock at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this week. She pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. However, she denied one count each of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink.
Court proceedings
Chike Anieto, prosecuting, said the offences allegedly happened in Whickham on September 28 this year. Mr Anieto continued: "I would urge you to accept jurisdiction. If you feel your sentencing powers are insufficient, you could always commit for sentence upon a conviction."
Kash Khan, defending, added: "It's alleged that police are following the car as it's deviating in the road and not driving particularly fast. The police illuminate their lights and it takes a bit of time for the defendant to stop. Her vehicle does come to a stop and the police notice that the window is all fogged up and they have concerns about the defendant's fitness to drive."
Mr Khan added: "The defendant's car is allegedly crossing lanes and goes through a red light, which she doesn't accept. She admits having no insurance or licence."
Bail and next hearing
Magistrates accepted jurisdiction and released Yusuff on unconditional bail. She is next due to appear at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court for trial on January 14.
