BBC drama Time season 3 leaves viewers hooked

A UK-based content creator has recommended the BBC prison drama Time as a gripping watch, saying viewers will be "completely hooked from start to finish." The recommendation comes as season 3, starring David Tennant, recently dropped on BBC iPlayer.

Luke Eccleston, who posts under the handle EccyReviews and describes himself as a "TV fanatic," shared the suggestion with his 5,000+ followers. He said: "Season 3 just dropped on BBC and I've binge-watched all three episodes and it is my favourite season by far."

A BAFTA-winning anthology

Time is a BAFTA award-winning BBC series written by screenwriter Jimmy McGovern. Each three-part series explores a different setting within the UK criminal justice system, with themes of guilt, punishment, redemption, and institutional failings.

Season 1 followed Mark Cobden (Sean Bean), a former teacher sentenced to four years for accidentally killing a man while drink-driving, and Eric McNally (Stephen Graham), a prison officer whose family is threatened by a dangerous inmate. Season 2 moved to Carlingford Prison, a women's facility, following Orla (Jodie Whittaker), Kelsey (Bella Ramsey), and Abi (Tamara Lawrance).

Season 3 focuses on a Young Offender Institution

The latest season shifts to a Young Offender Institution, examining young men caught in the justice system after a tragedy, amid prison overcrowding and institutional collapse. It stars David Tennant and Siobhan Finneran, who reprises her role as chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell across all three seasons.

Each season is self-contained, so viewers can start with any series. Discussing the new season, Eccleston said: "I was gripped from start to finish and all the performances are brilliant. I guarantee that you will absolutely love this show." His post has amassed more than 7,000 likes.

Viewer reactions

Commenters echoed the praise. One wrote: "Watched it all tonight - best thing I've watched for ages. Very violent and very sad. The writer spent a lot of time in these youth offenders prisons and was horrified at the conditions, it was all based on truth." Another said: "I have just started watching it, it's brilliant very gripping," while a third added: "Totally hooked from the start! Talent is incredible."
