A driver who deliberately rammed his car into another vehicle three times while high on drugs and drunk has been jailed for eight months. Corey Morgan, 21, broke his own neck when he crashed into a tree after a fourth attempt to hit the car.
The Incident
The incident occurred on July 12 last year in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. Morgan had argued with his girlfriend when she arrived to collect belongings from his house. She was in a Kia Rio with her pregnant friend and the friend’s one-year-old son. They had been driving around to help the young boy fall asleep.
Morgan, under the influence of cocaine, cannabis, and alcohol, got into his Vauxhall Corsa and pursued them. He first hit a parked Vauxhall Astra, writing it off, then collided with the Kia three times.
Prosecutor Rob Simkins told Cardiff Crown Court: ‘The driver, at this point, was terrified that he would kill her and her baby.’
Morgan attempted a fourth crash on the Cwmdraw Industrial Estate but missed, instead smashing into a tree. The car flipped, leaving him with a broken neck, fractured skull, and a bleed on the brain.
Arrest and Sentencing
When police arrived, Morgan claimed ‘I weren’t driving’, but was arrested and taken to hospital. He spent two weeks at University Hospital of Wales before appearing in court, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.
Recorder Greg Bull told Morgan: ‘You have nobody to blame but yourself. You were lucky you weren’t killed and lucky that other people weren’t killed. This was deliberate driving of a disgraceful nature.’
Along with the eight-month prison sentence, Morgan was banned from driving for 22 months and must pass an extended test before driving again.
