Fire Service Update: Steady State Declared

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) has confirmed that the major moorland fire near Dovestone Reservoir remains active but is now in a 'steady state'. The blaze, which began on Saturday night (July 11) and led to a major incident declaration, is being tackled by approximately 70 firefighters on Tuesday (July 14).

Eleven fire engines and four wildfire units are deployed at the scene near Greenfield, Oldham. Crews are focused on containing and reducing hotspots, with progress contingent on weather conditions, which are being closely monitored.

Public Urged to Avoid Area

Holmfirth Road remains closed, and the fire service is urging the public not to travel to the area. Residents affected by visible smoke are advised to keep doors and windows closed, and only open them once the smoke has dissipated. A GMFRS spokesperson stated: 'Keeping access routes clear is essential to ensure emergency vehicles, specialist equipment and partner agencies can operate safely and effectively.'
