A dog has died and several homes were evacuated following a severe house fire in Crosshill, Fife. Emergency services were called to Main Street shortly after 9:30 PM on Wednesday, July 8. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four appliances to the scene, where a two-storey house near Lochore Meadows was engulfed in flames.
Fire Crews Battle Intense Blaze
Firefighters worked for approximately 11 hours to bring the fire under control and extinguish it. A neighbouring property was evacuated as a precaution. No human injuries were reported, but a dog tragically perished in the fire. Videos shared on social media depicted black smoke billowing from the front door and orange flames erupting before emergency services arrived.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson stated: “We were alerted at 9.32pm on Wednesday, July 8 to reports of a dwelling fire on Main Street, Crosshill. Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene, where a fire was affecting a two-storey house. All persons were accounted for, but sadly a dog passed away. Crews worked at the scene until after 9am on Thursday, July 9 to make the area safe.”
Ongoing Investigation
Police Scotland also attended the scene. A spokesperson said: “Around 9.55pm on Wednesday, July 8, we received a report of a fire at a property on Main Street in Crosshill, Lochgelly. Emergency services attended and no injuries were reported. A dog was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.”
The incident has prompted an investigation into the cause of the blaze, with authorities continuing their work to determine how the fire started. Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant as the investigation proceeds.
