Three Men Dismembered: Grisly Discovery of Human Remains in Guerrero Bags
Dismembered human remains found in plastic bags in Mexico

In a horrific discovery that underscores the extreme violence plaguing parts of Mexico, police have found the dismembered remains of three men discarded in plastic bags in the state of Guerrero.

A Horrific Discovery in Acapulco Diamante

Municipal officers were called to the Playa Dinamita area in the Acapulco Diamante region on January 9 after receiving anonymous tips. The reports concerned six suspicious plastic bags that had been dumped behind a commercial complex known as La Isla.

Investigators arriving at the scene around 9pm confirmed the grim contents. The bags contained the heads and limbs of three male victims. The bodies were transported to a morgue in the town of El Quemado, but as of now, none of the three victims have been identified.

A Recurring Nightmare of Cartel Violence

This gruesome find is sadly not an isolated incident in Guerrero, one of Mexico's most violent states. In April 2025, federal investigators descended on Acapulco after the discovery of plastic bags holding the remains of a single victim, who was missing arms, legs, and a head. A threatening note, signed by an unidentifiable criminal group, was found nearby.

That same month, the bodies of 11 murder victims were discovered in the Tecoanapa municipality following clashes between rival gangs. Previous decapitations have been attributed to the "La Barredora" gang, which operates in Guerrero. In August last year, six severed heads were found on a road in central Mexico with a blanket and a note reportedly signed by the group, whose name translates to "the sweeper."

The Broader Context of Violence in Guerrero

Guerrero is one of six Mexican states that account for nearly half of all homicides in the country. The vast majority of these murders are linked to drug trafficking and territorial battles between cartels. The violence became so intense in 2024 that Catholic bishops were forced to intervene and broker a truce between two warring cartels.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office currently advises against "all but essential travel" to Guerrero state due to the high levels of violent crime. This latest discovery serves as a brutal reminder of the ongoing security crisis facing the region, where such grim finds have become a recurring tragedy.
