Child, 12, found dead in Munich hotel room

A 12-year-old child was found dead in a hotel room near Munich's main railway station in a suspected homicide, according to German media. Emergency services were called to the Eden Hotel Wolff on Arnulfstrasse at around 9.40am local time (8.40am GMT) on Wednesday after a hotel employee discovered the child's body.

A woman, reported by local media to be the child's mother, was found seriously injured in the same room. Police are treating the death as a suspected homicide.

Investigation underway

German newspaper Bild reports that investigators suspect the woman, reportedly a Ukrainian national, killed her child before attempting to take her own life. Police said the employee who found the child's body is receiving psychological support from a crisis intervention team.

The four-star hotel, founded in 1890, is located directly opposite Munich Central Station and has more than 200 rooms, as well as an on-site restaurant and wellness area.

Police review CCTV footage

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, with police reviewing footage from the hotel's CCTV cameras. Munich police are expected to release further details about the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
