Car Plunges into River at Scots Beauty Spot, Occupants Safe

A car has plunged into a river following a crash at a beauty spot in Aberdeenshire. Emergency services were called to the scene on Harbour Street in Cruden Bay, near Peterhead, when the alarm was raised at around 11.30am on Monday, July 13.

Emergency Response and Rescue

Police and Coastguard crews responded to the incident after the car fell down an embankment and into the Water of Cruden, near the town's harbour. Both occupants of the car managed to climb out of the submerged vehicle before emergency services arrived on scene.

A video shared on social media of the aftermath of the crash showed the blue hatchback left with its front end dipping into the water, while the boot could be seen to be wide open. Several police officers and volunteers from the Cruden Bay Coastguard Rescue Team could also be seen at the location of the crash.

Vehicle Recovery and Official Statement

The car has since been recovered from the river. A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "Cruden Bay Coastguard Rescue Team attended a car entering the water at Cruden Bay, reported at about 11.30am on July 13. The two people inside recovered themselves to safety and the vehicle was later removed. Police Scotland attended."

Police Scotland were contacted for comment.
