A 17-year-old British teenager has been declared brain dead after falling head-first from a hotel balcony in the Athens suburb of Halandri, Greece. The incident occurred at around 5am local time on July 3, 2026, when the boy fell from the first floor of the property.
Hospital Confirms Unrecoverable Condition
The teenager was rushed to Erythros Stavros (Red Cross) Hospital, where doctors confirmed his condition was unrecoverable, according to ekathimerini. He was placed on life support in the intensive care unit, but medical staff determined the injuries were too severe.
A source at the scene told The Sun that the teenager suffered multiple injuries, including internal trauma. “It’s touch and go and we are all praying he will pull through,” the source said, though later reports confirmed brain death.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Hellenic Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Officers have arrested a 37-year-old kiosk worker for selling alcohol to the minor after he presented a fake driver’s licence. The sale is believed to have occurred shortly before the fall.
This incident follows another recent tragedy involving a British visitor in Greece. Earlier in the week, a 50-year-old British woman was critically injured in a rockfall while hiking near the Nidri waterfalls on the island of Lefkada. She was initially treated at Lefkada’s hospital before being transferred to the ICU at KAT Hospital in Athens with severe head injuries.
