Caravan breaks free, injures two women in Skelmersdale

Two 18-year-old women were seriously injured in Skelmersdale after a caravan broke free from a dark blue Range Rover and mounted the pavement, striking them. The driver then fled the scene, hitting a third woman, and was later arrested in West Yorkshire.

Incident details

Police were called to Beechtrees, in Skelmersdale, at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, August 18, to reports that three people had been injured. According to Lancashire Police, the caravan detached from the Range Rover before mounting the pavement and hitting the two women.

The two 18-year-olds were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One remains in hospital, while the other has since been discharged.

Driver arrested after fleeing

The driver of the car fled the scene, leaving a woman in her 30s who had tried to stop him with minor injuries. The Range Rover was traced to West Yorkshire, and a 44-year-old man from Rotherham was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and assault. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police appeal for witnesses
