Bradford Crash: Man Dead, Another Injured After Car Plunges

A 20-year-old man has died and another man aged 23 is in hospital with serious injuries after a car plunged approximately 100 feet from the roadside at a popular beauty spot in Bradford. West Yorkshire Police have arrested the driver, a 24-year-old man, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Incident Details

Emergency services were called at 7:24 PM on Monday, 22 June, to Hawksworth Road in Baildon, near the junction with Potter Brow Road, after reports that a vehicle had left the road. The vehicle, an Audi A3 convertible, careered off the carriageway and tumbled down a steep embankment near Baildon Moor, a well-known beauty spot. Four occupants were trapped inside the vehicle.

Specialist technical rescue firefighters and critical care paramedics were deployed to the scene. Several individuals were transported to hospital following the crash.

Casualties and Arrest

The 20-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to hospital. A 23-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries, while another 23-year-old man was treated for minor injuries. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: 'Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Bradford. Officers were called at 7.24pm yesterday (22 June) to Hawksworth Road, Baildon to reports one vehicle had left the road near the junction of Potter Brow Road. Four people were in the Audi A3 convertible.'

The spokesperson added: 'A man aged 20, sadly died from his injuries in hospital, another man aged 23 remains in hospital with serious injuries. A 23-year-old man was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle a man aged 24, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.'

Police Appeal

Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses. They are particularly keen to see any dash-cam or mobile phone footage of the incident or the driving prior to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 or the live chat facility quoting log 1698 of 22 June.

Police say any information could help establish the events leading up to the vehicle leaving the road. The investigation remains ongoing.
