Callum Kerr, a bare-knuckle boxer, has died after being restrained by fellow passengers on a Jet2 flight from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Manchester Airport. The incident occurred on June 21, when Kerr, in his 30s, reportedly became aggressive and disruptive after consuming a significant amount of alcohol.
Incident on board
According to witnesses, Kerr began arguing with his girlfriend, prompting cabin crew to move her to another seat. He allegedly followed her and attacked a man seated next to her. Passengers intervened, restraining him with about three or four people pinning him down.
When the plane landed at Manchester Airport at around 2:25 am, officers boarded and found Kerr not breathing. A defibrillator was called, and he was taken to hospital in a critical condition. His family later confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that he had died.
Tributes and investigation
Tributes have been paid on social media, with one message saying: "God bless mate we’ll catch up again" and another: "Gunna miss that cheeky grin of his." Greater Manchester Police stated: "An investigation is underway after a man became critically ill following reports that the same individual had been aggressive and disruptive towards a passenger and crew members on a flight heading into Manchester Airport."
A Jet2 spokesperson said: "We can confirm that flight LS966 from Larnaca to Manchester requested a priority landing on (Monday 22nd June), due to a disruptive passenger incident. We can confirm that a passenger has been taken to hospital. As an investigation is underway, it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time."
