Ann Widdecombe's Heartbreaking Take on Mortality Before Murder

A resurfaced video clip shows Ann Widdecombe speaking candidly about death, just days before she was found murdered in her Dartmoor home. The former Tory MP, aged 78, was discovered with serious injuries on July 9, 2026.

Widdecombe's Reflections on Mortality

In the interview with EWT News correspondent Colm Flynn, Widdecombe discussed how her perspective on mortality changed in her mid-70s. 'Throughout my 60s I never thought about mortality... I was going to live forever. When you get into your mid-seventies, probably about 75, things start happening. You develop twinges that you've never had before and you start to forget names that you've known all your life. Little signs are there and they are intimations of mortality,' she said.

She added: 'You realise it's not going to be any different for you, you are going to pop your clogs at some stage and you are going to go.' When asked if the thought frightened her, she replied: 'Frighten me? No. I'd go to heaven and be with my mother and my father and my brother. I always hope I might be with my past cats as well but I don't think that's theologically sound.'

Murder Investigation Underway

Widdecombe, also known for appearances on Celebrity Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing, was found dead after failing to appear for a scheduled television interview on Wednesday afternoon. A 26-year-old male suspect was arrested in Newton Abbot on Friday but has since been released and is no longer a suspect.

Devon and Cornwall Police have stated the investigation is not being treated as terrorism, and there is no evidence of a political motive. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said: 'Our priority remains identifying those responsible and ensuring that all available evidence is thoroughly examined. Detectives continue to carry out numerous enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation and we remain committed to establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.'

Tributes Pour In

Colm Flynn reshared the clip on X, formerly Twitter, writing: 'You've got to admit it, Ann Widdecombe was one of a kind. Rest in peace, Ann.' The video has garnered widespread attention as the public mourns the loss of the outspoken politician and television personality.
