At least 12 people, including six children, were injured in a mass shooting outside a university football stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday evening. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident.
The shooting occurred after an "altercation" between "two or three" people as crowds were leaving Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium following a homecoming football match against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Injuries and Victims
Police said three people were seriously injured, with one in a critical condition, and eight people who were hurt are now stable. Six children, one as young as 11, were injured, along with a grandmother.
Witnesses described fleeing the chaos as fans escaped the scene in a panic. In clips shared on social media, one person can be heard explaining "everybody ran; everybody cleared off." Video shows the area outside the stadium strewn with belongings of the bystanders.
Police Response
No arrests have been made, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said. He added in a press conference: "I stand before you tonight devastated… We had officers who were picking up victims and carrying them in their arms to transport because they couldn't get through the mass of people."
Revell also said: "We do not know exactly what happened … what we do believe is that this was an isolated incident between two or three individuals."
The Florida A&M 'Rattlers' were hosting their homecoming football match, an event which usually draws big crowds to the 19,000-capacity stadium. The investigation is ongoing.
