Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that the two people who died following an incident at Fistral Beach in Newquay were a father and daughter. The man, in his 60s, and the woman, in her 30s, both from Doncaster, were recovered from the water on Sunday evening.
Emergency response
Police were alerted by the South Western Ambulance Service at approximately 9.45pm on July 26. Coastguard rescue teams from Newquay, Padstow and St Agnes attended alongside Newquay RNLI lifeboats and a HM Coastguard helicopter.
Despite efforts from emergency services, the pair were confirmed dead at the scene. Their families have been notified and police extended their sympathies to them.
Appeal for sentimental belongings
A file will be compiled for HM Coroner. Police thanked all emergency workers and members of the public who responded.
The woman who died is believed to have been carrying a handbag described as orange or peach coloured with a shoulder strap. The leather-effect bag, roughly 30cm by 30cm, holds several personal items of sentimental value to her family. Police say recovering the bag would bring comfort to the bereaved family.
