A 78-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man have been left with serious injuries following a distressing incident in which a car mounted a pavement in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, on New Year's Eve. The crash, which was witnessed by numerous members of the public, occurred after the elderly driver suffered a sudden medical emergency.
Emergency Response on Main Street
Emergency services were called to Main Street in Bulwell at 11.24am on Wednesday, 31 December 2025. The incident involved a car which suddenly left the road and ploughed into three pedestrians on the pavement. Three ambulances rushed to the scene, and the street was closed to facilitate the emergency response and initial investigation.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a 78-year-old woman sustained multiple serious injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment. A second pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, is being treated for a serious leg injury. A third person was also injured but did not require hospital treatment.
The driver, identified as a 70-year-old man, was taken to hospital for assessment but has since been released. Police have stated that no arrests have been made, and they are treating the incident as a medical episode at the wheel. An investigation into the full circumstances is ongoing.

Sergeant Craig Luckett of Nottinghamshire Police's roads policing unit described the event as a distressing incident witnessed by many. "Sadly, one woman sustained some very serious injuries and is currently being treated in hospital," he said. "Another man also sustained a significant leg injury. As our investigation into what happened continues, our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident."
The force is appealing for anyone with additional information to come forward. Witnesses are asked to call 101, quoting incident number 197 of 31 December 2025.
This is not the first recent incident of its kind on this road; in April 2025, a pensioner in his 80s was hit by a car on Main Street. He was hospitalised with injuries that were not life-threatening and was later discharged.
