Far-Right Activist Tommy Robinson Flees UK Following Police Terror Threat Warning
Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has been forced to flee the United Kingdom after receiving a direct warning from Bedfordshire Police regarding a specific terror threat. The police informed Robinson that his name had appeared in a publication by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), which called for individuals to commit violence against him.
Police Call Reveals ISIS Publication Threat
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, posted a clip of a phone call from Bedfordshire Police to his social media account. In the recording, an officer states that intelligence had been received indicating Robinson was identified in a magazine called Yalghar, published by ISKP. The officer explicitly mentions that the publication encourages others to commit violence against Robinson.
A spokeswoman for Bedfordshire Police confirmed the legitimacy of the call, explaining that officers contacted a man from Bedfordshire after discovering his name in prohibited material produced by a proscribed organisation. The police provided safeguarding advice and support as part of their standard procedures.
Robinson Declares Himself a 'Priority Target' and Leaves Country
Following the police warning, Robinson took to social media to declare himself a priority target for ISIS. He announced that he had left the UK for his safety and the safety of his family. In a statement, Robinson wrote, I have now left the country, I need time to work things out for my safety and the safety of my family. I will probably have to relocate them. I will update you when I can.
This move marks a significant turn for Robinson, who has long been a vocal critic of immigration and has demonised immigrants in the past. Now, he finds himself following a similar path by fleeing his home country due to security concerns.
Police Advise Against Weapons and Pre-emptive Action
During the phone call, the police officer emphasised that the intelligence did not authorise Robinson to carry weapons or take any pre-emptive action against others. The officer reminded Robinson of legal restrictions, stating, Just remind, you know, because of this information, it doesn’t authorise you to carry weapons, anything like that, take any pre-emptive action against others.
Robinson inquired about obtaining a copy of the publication but was informed it is likely proscribed material, which is illegal to possess under UK terrorism laws.
Fundraising Appeal Amidst Security Crisis
Alongside his announcement, Robinson posted a brazen fundraising opportunity, asking his followers for financial help to support him and his family during this period. The post was quickly flooded with responses, including calls for him to seek safety in Israel.
This incident highlights the ongoing tensions and security challenges faced by high-profile activists in the UK, particularly those involved in far-right movements. The police's proactive approach in warning Robinson underscores the seriousness of the threat and the measures taken to protect individuals from potential terrorist activities.
