A cherished Nottingham takeaway owner has been left devastated after the moped essential to his business and family's livelihood was stolen in a brazen daylight theft.
Yogesh Alekari, who runs the popular Zayka Indian Takeaway in Sherwood, is facing a crisis after his black Lexmoto Arrow was taken from outside his home on Hucknall Road at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 30 April. The vehicle is not just a mode of transport; it is the very engine of his family's income.
In an emotional and heartfelt plea, Mr. Alekari directly addressed the thieves: "Please, I beg of you, bring my bike back. It is how I provide for my children, for my family. We need it to work, to survive. You can just leave it somewhere, I will come and get it with no questions asked."
The theft was captured on CCTV, which has now been released by Nottinghamshire Police in an effort to track down the culprits. The footage shows a individual casually approaching the bike before making off with it.
A Plea to the Public
Investigating officers are urging anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has been offered a similar bike for sale in suspicious circumstances.
The community of Sherwood has since rallied around Mr. Alekari, with an outpouring of support on local social media groups. Customers and neighbours have expressed their shock and anger at the targeted theft of a hardworking local businessman.
This incident sheds a stark light on the impact of vehicle crime on small businesses and the individuals behind them, for whom such a loss is not merely an inconvenience but a direct threat to their economic survival.
