Two men who wore high-visibility vests during a raid on an Ann Summers store in Nottingham have been sentenced, after police caught them within minutes of the break-in.
Jason Kamal, 48, and Ashley Hillsley, 21, smashed the window of the chain's high street store in Long Row on August 14, before stealing sex toys and lingerie worth £12,059.
Caught within minutes
Police officers arrived shortly after 4.30am, following a call about the burglary, and caught the men as they tried to run away. The stolen goods were found stuffed in the boot of Hillsley's car.
Chief Inspector Kylie Davies from Nottinghamshire Police said: 'These are not mastermind criminals, quite the opposite, who had no chance whatsoever of getting away with this crime.'
Evidence trail
Kamal, of no fixed abode, initially denied entering the store, but his face was visible on CCTV. Hillsley, from Mansfield, claimed he was 'bullied' into the burglary and was told he would receive a large sum of money that would make him no longer 'a nobody.' The 21-year-old said his role was to be on the lookout and assist.
Following the Ann Summers raid, Kamal was also arrested on suspicion of another burglary at Professional Mobile electronics store in Arnold. He had left a vape with his DNA at the Arnold store on July 28, and had used a mobile phone stolen from the shop. He is said to have stolen £13,000 worth of electronics.
Sentences handed down
Kamal admitted six counts of burglary and was given a three-year prison sentence for both burglaries at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday. Hillsley pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and was handed a community order with a probation requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work.
