Goldilocks Burglar Who Tidied House and Did Washing Up Avoids Jail

A couple from Lancashire returned from holiday to find a burglar fast asleep in their bed, having tidied the house, done the washing up, and even washed his own underwear.

Martin Holtby and Pat Dyson discovered Lukasz Chojnowski, 28, asleep in their home in Nelson. The intruder had also bought groceries and cooked meals, though he burned an old saucepan.

Ms Dyson likened the incident to the Goldilocks story, saying: 'It was a bit like [Goldilocks] and the Three Bears.' She added that the house 'wasn't too tidy' when they left, but Chojnowski had cleaned up.

Mr Holtby said he was not frightened but surprised, and called police. Officers arrested Chojnowski while he was still asleep. The couple's window cleaner later said he had seen the intruder and assumed he was their grandson.

At Burnley Crown Court, Chojnowski, originally from Poland but living in Leeds, admitted burglary and was given a two-year conditional discharge, ordered to pay £200 costs.
