Honeytrap Gang Jailed for Brutal Machete Kidnapping of Premier League Barber
Gang jailed for honeytrap machete kidnapping of football barber

A vicious criminal gang has been sentenced to more than 40 years behind bars for a horrifying kidnap and blackmail plot that involved luring a Premier League footballer's personal barber to a flat and holding him at machete-point.

The terrifying ordeal began when the victim, known for his high-profile clientele, was enticed to an apartment in Birmingham by a female member of the gang. Upon his arrival, he was ambushed by three masked men armed with a large machete and a knife.

A Night of Terror and Torture

The court heard how the men subjected their victim to a sustained and brutal attack. They bound his hands with cable ties and brutally tortured him, making specific threats to chop off his fingers unless a substantial ransom was paid.

In a desperate bid to extort money, the gang forced the barber to call his family and friends, demanding they transfer £20,000 for his safe release. The victim was held captive for several hours, fearing for his life throughout the agonising ordeal.

The Dramatic Police Raid

West Midlands Police, having been alerted to the situation, launched a rapid investigation. Using vital intelligence, they were able to track the gang to the address in Birmingham. Armed officers stormed the property, successfully rescuing the traumatised victim and arresting the perpetrators at the scene.

Detectives praised the victim's incredible bravery throughout the investigation and subsequent trial, which led to the conviction of all four gang members.

Justice Served at Birmingham Crown Court

At Birmingham Crown Court, the four perpetrators faced the consequences of their brutal actions:

  • David Kelly, 38: Jailed for 14 years for kidnap and blackmail.
  • Michael Papachristopoulos, 32: Received a 13-year sentence for the same charges.
  • Panagiotis Thalassinos, 34: Sentenced to 12 years and three months.
  • Stephanie Papachristopoulos, 33: The female accomplice who set the trap was jailed for three years.

This case serves as a stark warning about the sophisticated and cruel lengths organised criminal groups will go to for financial gain.
