Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie has been targeted by criminals for the second time in just four months, after thieves smashed their way into his luxury car following a Premier League match.
Vehicle Vandalised After Match
The 23-year-old Italian international returned to his £150,000 Range Rover on Saturday evening to find a scene of devastation. The incident occurred after he was an unused substitute in Tottenham's 2-1 home defeat by West Ham United. Udogie discovered the vehicle's back window had been completely smashed, with shattered glass covering the interior.
In a sardonic social media post reacting to the break-in, the player simply wrote: 'Yeah, goodnight.' A subsequent check revealed that a clothes hanger and a carton of water were the only items left in the boot, suggesting the thieves had taken whatever else was inside.
A Terrifying Pattern Emerges
This distressing event comes just four months after Udogie was subjected to a terrifying ordeal where he was allegedly threatened with a gun by a football agent. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 31-year-old man was arrested on 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence. He was bailed while enquiries continued.
In a statement after that earlier attack, Tottenham Hotspur said: 'We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.' Spurs boss Thomas Frank also offered his support, stating the club had done everything possible to help the player through the situation.
Fan Outrage and London Safety Concerns
The latest crime has sparked outrage among Tottenham supporters, who quickly rallied around their player online. One fan, David Cochrane, commented: 'Ah man, I'm sorry for Destiny.' Another supporter named Bradley fumed: 'Unacceptable. And has to stop immediately.'
The incident has also fuelled a broader debate about safety in the capital. Fan Darren Carter added pointedly: 'Impossible. Sadiq Khan said London is safe, low on crime and the best city in the world.' Another, James Smith, stated: 'Simply has to stop. This is London for you, we've done this to ourselves.'
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called at 11.14pm on Saturday, 6 September to reports of the break-in. Udogie, who joined Spurs from Udinese for £15m on a five-year deal in the summer of 2022, has shown remarkable resilience, continuing to perform on the pitch despite these alarming off-field events.
