CCTV shows woman stealing table lamp from Matlock bar

A woman was captured on CCTV attempting to steal a table lamp from a bar in Matlock, Derbyshire, by slipping it into her bag. The footage, released by the bar, shows the customer glancing around before discreetly shoving the decorative lamp into her bag and returning to her conversation with two other customers.

Incident at Krak bar

The incident took place at the Krak bar, a German-themed venue that opened in August and sells traditional European drinks. The unidentified woman is seen on the video discreetly placing the lamp into her bag before resuming her chat with two other customers opposite, without appearing concerned.

Footage shared online

The bar shared the footage online as a deterrent and to try to locate the alleged thief. The video has since been viewed more than six million times. Alongside the footage, the bar wrote: "Seems we’ve lost one of our new table lamps. Whilst on the hunt to find it we came across this footage of a lovely lady misplacing it."

The post continued: "Does anybody know how we could get in touch with the lady to get this back as one of our tables is in complete darkness. Please message our page with her name so we could contact her or even better please could you drop us a message to let us know when we can receive our property."

Social media reaction

Commenters responded with humour, with one person writing: "That’s what you call a light touch" and another adding: "I've heard about nicking pint glasses, but this seems a harder thing to hide." Others joked, "Good that this place is shining a light on this situation" and "Maybe she's not the brightest."
