Counter-terrorism police have taken charge of an investigation into a deliberate arson attack on a business in Hendon, located in north-west London. The incident occurred on Friday evening, prompting a significant response from emergency services.

Metropolitan Police officers were alerted to the scene shortly after 10:30 PM on Friday, following reports of suspicious activity. The London Fire Brigade also attended to manage the aftermath of the fire.
According to police statements, a man was observed approaching a row of shops carrying a plastic bag. Inside the bag were three bottles containing an unidentified fluid. The individual placed the bag adjacent to the building and attempted to ignite its contents. However, the bottles failed to fully catch fire, and the suspect fled the area before authorities could apprehend him.
Counter-Terrorism Involvement and Community Concerns
Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London emphasized that while the arson is not currently linked to other recent incidents in North West London or a similar attack in Golders Green last month, counter-terror officers are leading the investigation due to notable similarities between the cases.
"We will be relentless in our pursuit of those responsible for this and other, similar, hateful acts against London’s communities," Commander Flanagan stated. She urged anyone with information or footage to contact police immediately to aid the ongoing probe.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who oversees policing in the area, acknowledged the heightened fears within the community. "I understand and appreciate their concerns, and I know this latest incident will add to fears in the community," he said.

In response to the attack and previous incidents, local officers are collaborating closely with counter-terrorism units to support the investigation. The community can expect an increased police presence, including:
