In a terrifying incident that could have ended in tragedy, a heroic father-of-three put his own life on the line to protect innocent worshippers from an Islamist terrorist attempting to storm a Sydney synagogue.
Liam Arnold, 35, became the human barrier between danger and dozens of families when a known terrorist tried to force his way into the synagogue during a children's service. With lightning-fast reflexes, Arnold slammed the doors shut and used his body weight to prevent the attacker from gaining entry.
The Moment of Terror
"I heard screaming and saw this man charging toward the doors with pure hatred in his eyes," Arnold recounted. "There were children inside - my own included. I didn't think, I just acted."
The attacker, identified as Raddi Raddi, 32, had been under police surveillance and was known to authorities as a radicalised individual with extremist views. He arrived at the synagogue armed and determined to cause mass casualties.
