Czech authorities have launched a major investigation into a significant warehouse fire at a drone technology company, treating the incident as suspected arson with potential links to terrorism. The blaze erupted in an industrial zone in the city of Pardubice, located approximately 100 kilometers east of Prague, on Friday, March 20, 2026.
No Injuries Reported in Industrial Fire
Police confirmed that the fire caused no injuries and was successfully extinguished by firefighters. Officials have stated there is no ongoing danger to the public following the incident. The warehouse is owned by LPP Holding, a company that develops and manufactures products for both civilian and military applications.
Company's Military Connections Under Scrutiny
LPP Holding is known for producing drone technologies, including systems used by Ukraine's armed forces in their defence against the Russian invasion. The company confirmed the fire occurred in one of its buildings and is fully cooperating with the investigation, though it declined to provide further comment at this stage.
Terrorism Link Suggested by Senior Officials
Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar publicly stated that "the incident may be related to a terrorist attack," though he added that authorities currently have no information about further danger. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš described the news as "very serious," while top police officer Martin Ondrášek confirmed that police are operating on the assumption that the fire was deliberately set.
International Cooperation and Future Plans
Minister Metnar announced that Czech authorities will share investigation details with foreign partners. This development comes as LPP Holding had previously announced plans to open a new centre for drone development and production, in cooperation with Israeli military technology company Elbit Systems. The facility was intended to include personnel training capabilities.
It remains unclear what specific materials were inside the warehouse at the time of the fire. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the precise cause and any potential broader implications of this serious incident at a strategically important technology facility.
