Dmitry Bivol will defend his unified light-heavyweight world titles this weekend against Michael Eifert, in a bout taking place on home soil in Russia. The 35-year-old champion faces the German challenger, 28, at the UMMC Arena in Yekaterinburg on Saturday, 30 May.
The fight represents Bivol's first outing since he narrowly outpointed Artur Beterbiev 15 months ago to become the undisputed champion, levelling their rivalry at 1-1. Eifert, with a record of 13 wins and one defeat, will be stepping into the ring for the first time against a fighter of Bivol's calibre.
Despite the immediate challenge ahead, much of the discussion surrounding Bivol has already turned to potential future opponents. Fans are eager to see a trilogy clash with Beterbiev, who has not fought since his loss, or a showdown with David Benavidez, who recently won a unified title at cruiserweight. Both remain possible targets for the champion.
