A wave of bomb threats has targeted a minimum of 12 flights across Europe this morning, triggering widespread diversions, emergency landings, and fighter jet escorts. The disruptions come just two days after seven flights were targeted in a series of suspected malicious hoax bomb threats.
Threats and Diversions
The disruptions commenced with Aer Lingus flight EI402, travelling between Dublin and Rome, which was escorted by scrambled fighter aircraft over France before touching down at a French military base. Italian authorities similarly deployed fighter jets to accompany Finnair flight AY1761, flying from Helsinki to Rome, following a security alert reported by news agency ANSA.
In Bulgaria, three Ryanair services executed emergency landings, according to national broadcaster BNT. Flights FR6410 and FR3606 arrived at Sofia's Vasil Levski Airport, whilst flight FR1730—which had departed from London Stansted—diverted to Plovdiv Airport, reports The Mirror.
