Lorraine Kelly was back on her ITV show on Thursday morning (November 5) after a last-minute schedule change on Wednesday saw her programme cancelled. The Scottish presenter had to skip her regular slot after the ITV studios experienced an electrical failure on Wednesday, which disrupted several programmes on the channel.
Return to the Studio After the Power Cut
As her show kicked off, Lorraine stated: "Welcome to the show. We are back in the studio today after that wee power cut yesterday. It affected quite a lot of Covent Garden, but it's all sorted."
Throughout Good Morning Britain, Lorraine also referenced her programme's return while chatting to Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley during the handover segment. Kate remarked: "Lorraine, marvellously, is here today after 9.30am after all sorts of issues yesterday, weren't there?" She replied: "I know! It wasn't just us; it was all around Covent Garden. Everything went dark! But it's all back, we're all fine, it's all good."
Wednesday's Cancellation and Disruption
On Wednesday morning, the Scottish broadcaster was heading towards the studios before informing her fans her programme was being scrapped for the day, reports the Mirror. Posting a clip on Instagram, she stated: "Hello there, I'm on my way to work, but there's been a little bit of a hoo-ha. There's a power outage at the studio, so my show won't be on today. But you can still watch GMB."
"They're going to fix it around 11 o'clockish. So, This Morning will still be on as well, just a bit later. It's a bit of a shame. I was really looking forward to Sharleen Spiteri from Texas, but we shall reschedule, and it'll all be fine. I will see you tomorrow!"
As her programme was axed, Good Morning Britain was extended by an additional half an hour. Despite Lorraine's belief that the technical fault would be resolved by 11am, this proved not to be the case, with This Morning and Loose Women also falling victim to the disruption. Rather than broadcasting a live programme, This Morning aired a highlights package for two and a half hours. Loose Women, meanwhile, was replaced by an episode of Ben Shephard's game show Tipping Point.
Thursday's Programme and Personal Moment
By Thursday morning, however, normal service had resumed, with Lorraine sitting down with actor Greg Wise to discuss his latest book on grief. In a candid moment, she told the actor: "Thank you for this book; it's helped me a lot. My dad died in January, and it's been difficult, like everybody has to go through these things. But this is so helpful."
Tragically, Lorraine's father, John, died unexpectedly at the age of 84 following an injury sustained from a fall on an icy path earlier this year. Lorraine continues weekdays on ITV from 9:30am.
