Two Scots deny South Wales grooming gang sex abuse charges

Two Scottish men have denied historical offences relating to the alleged sexual abuse and rape of children as part of a grooming gang operating in South Wales. Nine men aged 54 to 76 were arrested in July as part of an investigation into reports made by women of sexual abuse committed against them as children in the 1980s and 1990s.

Court appearance and pleas

The defendants, who are all British citizens, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday. Six of them entered not guilty pleas to the charges against them.

They will not stand trial for more than a year, with a date set in January 2028 by Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, the Recorder of Cardiff. Those who entered pleas included Mohammed Sheikh Abdul Hannan, 54, of Edinburgh, and Kevin Lawrence, 54, of Dunoon, Argyll and Bute.
