Six Men Face 60 Sex Charges in 13-Year Swindon Case

A man accused of drugging and repeatedly raping his ex-wife over more than a decade, alongside five other men, is due to appear in court this week facing a total of 60 sexual offence charges.

Charges Span 13-Year Period

Philip Young, 49, formerly of Swindon but now living in Enfield, has been charged with 56 sexual offences against his ex-wife, Joanne Young, 48. The alleged crimes span a 13-year period between 2010 and 2023. His charges include multiple counts of rape, administering a substance with intent to stupefy and overpower to allow sexual activity, voyeurism, and possession of indecent and extreme images.

Five other men have also been charged in connection with the case. They are Norman Macksoni, 47, of Sharnbrook; Dean Hamilton, 46, of no fixed abode; Conner Sanderson Doyle, 31, from Swindon; Richard Wilkins, 61, from Swindon; and Mohammed Hassan, 37, also from Swindon.

Allegations Against the Five Other Defendants

The charges against the other men include rape, sexual assault by penetration, sexual touching, and possession of extreme images. The specific allegations are:

  • Norman Macksoni: one count of rape and possession of extreme images.
  • Dean Hamilton: one count of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual touching.
  • Conner Sanderson Doyle: sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching.
  • Richard Wilkins: one count of rape and sexual touching.
  • Mohammed Hassan: sexual touching.

All six men are scheduled to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Victim Waives Right to Anonymity

The victim, Joanne Young, has made the decision to waive her automatic legal right to anonymity. She is being supported by specially trained officers from Wiltshire Police.

James Foster, a Specialist Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, stated: 'The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the prosecution... following a police investigation into alleged serious sexual offences against Joanne Young over a period of 13 years. Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to charge and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.'

Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith of Wiltshire Police described it as a 'significant update in what is a complex and extensive investigation.' He confirmed that Ms. Young's decision to be named followed 'multiple discussions with officers and support services.'
