We've all been there - that moment when you realise your first date is going spectacularly wrong. For one woman, her evening of potential romance turned into a comedy of errors that would make anyone cringe.
The Setup
Our anonymous dater agreed to meet her match at a cosy wine bar in London. "He seemed nice enough in his messages," she recalls. "We'd been chatting for about two weeks before deciding to meet in person."
The First Red Flag
Things took an awkward turn before they'd even ordered drinks. "He arrived 20 minutes late without apologising," she says. "Then he spent the first ten minutes complaining about his ex-girlfriend. Not exactly the romantic start I'd imagined."
The Conversation From Hell
As the evening progressed, the conversation took several bizarre turns:
- He claimed to be "basically famous" on LinkedIn
- Admitted he'd Googled her before the date
- Asked if she believed in aliens - then argued when she said no
The Final Straw
The date reached its peak awkwardness when he tried to pay with an expired coupon. "The waiter looked at us like we were trying to scam them," she laughs. "I ended up paying for my own drink just to escape the situation."
Lessons Learned
While the experience was painful at the time, our dater can now see the funny side. "At least I got a great story out of it," she says. "My advice? Always have an exit strategy for bad dates - and maybe check their LinkedIn fame claims beforehand."
