Dion Arnold, a 33-year-old Metropolitan Police officer, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison at Guildford Crown Court after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences against four women. The court heard that Arnold raped one woman while she was asleep and choked another with a scarf until she lost consciousness. He was convicted on four counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual assault following a seven-week trial in March and April 2026. The offences occurred between March 2023 and March 2025.
Abuse of trust and misogyny
Judge Deborah Charles described Arnold as having a "deep-seated need to control women" and showing "deep levels of misogyny." She noted there was "limited evidence" of genuine remorse for his actions. Arnold, who also served as an Army Reserve medic, used his positions of trust to target women, though police confirmed none of the victims were met through his professional roles.
Victims' bravery leads to justice
The investigation began in March 2025 when one victim reported Arnold to Surrey Police. A forensic examination of his mobile phone revealed a list of women's names, leading to the identification of three additional victims. None of the victims knew each other. Detective Inspector Hannah Randall from Surrey Police’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team praised the victims' courage, stating: "Arnold deliberately targeted women who he believed would not report him to the police for whom he worked. These women believed that they could trust him because he held two positions of trust with respectable professions."
Dismissal and sentencing
Following a misconduct hearing on May 7, 2026, Arnold was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison on June 22, with an additional eight years on licence. The case highlights the abuse of power by a serving officer and the determination of victims to seek justice.
