Merseyside Police have arrested a 63-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of sexual assault after a female patient was allegedly assaulted at Whiston Hospital. The incident was reported to police at approximately 3:55 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Police Investigation Underway

Officers from Merseyside Police responded to the report of a sexual assault on a patient within the hospital premises. A police van was observed in the hospital car park later that day as part of the ongoing inquiry. The force is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust stated: "We are cooperating fully with Merseyside Police, and as such it would not be appropriate for us to comment at this stage." The trust has not provided further details about the patient's condition or the circumstances of the alleged assault.
