High School Musical Star Matt Prokop Arrested on Child Pornography Charges
Ex-Disney Star Matt Prokop Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Former Disney Channel star Matt Prokop has been taken into custody in Texas on a series of serious charges, including the possession of child pornography. The actor, best known for his roles in High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Geek Charming, is currently being held at Victoria County jail.

Chronology of the Arrest and Charges

According to reports from local outlet Crossroads Today, Prokop's legal troubles escalated on 24 December 2025 when he was arrested at his home. The initial charges were for violation of bond conditions, evading, and resisting arrest. These stemmed from a previous arrest in 2024 on counts of resisting arrest and aggravated assault of a family member.

The case took a more severe turn on 31 December 2025, when authorities added a charge of possession or promotion of child pornography after a warrant was signed. The 35-year-old actor was arrested after allegedly violating the bond conditions tied to his 2024 case.

A Troubled Past and High-Profile Relationship

Prokop's career began with minor roles in shows like Hannah Montana and The Office before his breakout in the High School Musical franchise. His personal life, however, has been marred by controversy, most notably his four-year relationship with actress Sarah Hyland, his co-star in Geek Charming.

Their relationship ended in 2014 when Hyland, star of Modern Family, was granted a restraining order against Prokop after accusing him of domestic abuse. Court documents reveal that Hyland enlisted her on-screen mother, Julie Bowen, to help end the relationship. Bowen claimed she bought Prokop a flight ticket to Texas, but upon seeing her at Hyland's home, he allegedly "ran outside into the backyard and began screaming" and threw a lighter at her.

Hyland stated that doctors at a rehab facility Prokop attended in August 2024 advised her to seek the restraining order due to his mental state. A judge subsequently ordered Prokop to stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog at all times.

Career Decline and Recent Activity

Prokop's acting career effectively stalled after his last credited role in the 2013 film April Apocalypse. In a July 2024 Instagram update, the actor shared that he had begun selling adult content on the platform OnlyFans and announced that he was engaged. He reportedly left a rehabilitation programme in September of that year.

As of now, no contact information for Prokop is publicly available, and he remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. The case continues to develop, casting a long shadow over the former teen star's legacy.
