A former special constable who waged a terrifying and bizarre campaign of stalking against his ex-girlfriend has been jailed for seven years. Ashley Carr, 33, turned from a supposed protector into a predator, orchestrating a twisted revenge plot that culminated in him encouraging strangers to sexually assault her.
The shocking case, heard at Nottingham Crown Court, revealed a calculated and deeply disturbing pattern of behaviour. After their relationship ended, Carr refused to accept it, spiralling into an obsessive campaign of harassment that left his victim fearing for her life.
A Web of Deceit and Harassment
Carr's methods were as cunning as they were cruel. He didn't just make threatening calls; he weaponised the internet against her:
- Fake Advertisements: He placed advertisements online, posing as his victim, inviting men to her home for sexual encounters.
- Directing Strangers: He actively encouraged these responding men to sexually assault her, providing them with her address and details.
- Malicious Complaints: In a further attempt to disrupt her life, he made false allegations about her to her employer and even to the Home Office.
This relentless invasion led to numerous unwanted visitors arriving at the woman's home, causing immense psychological trauma and forcing her to live in a state of constant fear and anxiety.
From Upholding Law to Breaking It
The case is particularly alarming given Carr's former role. As a special constable with Nottinghamshire Police, he held a position of trust and was sworn to protect the public. Instead, he used his knowledge to torment and intimidate.
Detective Chief Inspector Ashley Booker, who led the investigation, condemned Carr's actions, stating his behaviour was "among the most callous and calculated I have seen". The court heard how the victim's life was utterly shattered by the months of unrelenting persecution.
Justice Served with a Strong Sentence
In addition to his seven-year prison term, Carr was handed a 15-year restraining order. He had previously pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm or distress.
