Jake Hunter, 30, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison for a campaign of terror against a woman, including threats to melt her face with acid. The case was heard at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday.
Threats and Harassment
Over the Christmas period in 2024, Hunter left more than 100 voicemails containing threats towards the woman and her family. In one message, he asked: "Let's see how pretty you are with acid on your face. You will melt." The court also heard threats to slit her throat, shoot her, burn down houses, and stab her relatives.
Offences and Previous Convictions
Hunter, of Cranbrook Street, Bradford, admitted to intentional strangulation, assault, breaching a non-molestation order, and putting a person in fear of violence through harassment. He also pleaded guilty to criminal damage for throwing a gas canister through a window in January 2025 while the victim was nearby. Another man with Hunter kicked the front door off its hinges before they fled in a car. The woman was uninjured.
Impact on Victim
Recorder Kama Melly KC noted that Hunter's offending caused fundamental changes to the victim's psychological health and personality. The woman moved away from the area but still lives in constant fear and suffers nightmares.
Sentencing
The judge rejected a suspended sentence, stating that a previous suspended sentence with probation intervention had not prevented further offending. Recorder Melly said: "These are significant and serious offences that have had a life-changing impact on the victim... only an immediate custodial sentence is appropriate." Hunter must serve up to half of his sentence, less time on curfew or remand, and a 10-year restraining order prohibits any contact with the woman.
