Mother of Euphoria Star Sues Law Firm Over 'Fabricated' Claims
Lisa Cloud, the grieving mother of the late actor Angus Cloud, has filed a lawsuit against a law firm alleging they pursued false and frivolous claims against her son's estate, causing her significant emotional distress and financial hardship. The legal action comes two years after the shocking death of the 25-year-old Euphoria star from an accidental drug overdose.
The Core of the Legal Dispute
According to court documents obtained by People, Lisa Cloud filed the civil complaint on October 31. She is suing attorney Michael Hackard and his associate Brian Geremia from Hackard Law, accusing them of elder abuse and intentionally inflicting emotional distress. The dispute originates from claims made by Jonathan Kim, who asserted he was Angus Cloud's former personal assistant.
Kim, represented by Hackard Law, alleged that the late actor owed him $310,000 in unpaid wages and commissions. However, in her lawsuit, Lisa Cloud states these allegations are 'entirely fabricated'. She contends there are no employment or tax documents to support Kim's claims and points out that her son had other assistants on payroll during the same period.
Financial and Emotional Toll on a Grieving Mother
The legal battle has taken a heavy toll. Lisa Cloud alleges she has already paid approximately $64,000 in legal fees to defend against the claims targeting her son's estate, which was valued at around $50,000 following his death. This means the legal costs have already surpassed the total value of the estate she is trying to protect.
The situation escalated dangerously when, after Lisa sent a private letter to the attorneys, she claims they breached confidentiality by sharing it. This allegedly resulted in Kim sending her threats, stating he would have her put in prison. The civil complaint details that due to the content of these messages, Lisa began to 'fear for her physical safety'.
Lisa told People in a statement, 'My goal has always been to protect my son's legacy and the integrity of his estate from wrongful legal actions that caused unnecessary harm and distress.' She expressed respect for the court system but firmly stated that no family should have to endure such an 'abuse of process' after losing a loved one.
A Pattern of Disputed Claims
This is not the first legal challenge faced by Angus Cloud's estate. It was previously sued over an unpaid $4,000 Verizon Wireless bill, and his former manager alleged the actor owed nearly $95,000 in unpaid commissions.
In the current case, Lisa Cloud previously claimed in a letter to a judge that Kim had been pressured by his attorneys to inflate his demand. She alleged that Kim told her his attorneys would not represent him unless the claimed amount of $195,000 in commissions was 'worth their while'.
Angus Cloud, best known for his role as Fezco in the HBO series Euphoria, passed away in July 2023. He was found unresponsive at his family home in Oakland, California, and his death was later ruled an accidental overdose from a combination of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. His death occurred shortly after the passing of his father, compounding the family's tragedy.
