A peak-hour crash on the West Gate Freeway in Melbourne escalated dramatically when a driver jumped onto the bonnet of a moving van. Victoria Police reported that a Ford van and a Nissan Navara collided on the Bolte Bridge in South Wharf just before 5pm on Friday.
Footage Captures Shocking Scene
Dramatic footage of the road rage incident shows the Nissan driver shouting at the man in the Ford van before leaping onto the vehicle's bonnet. He was seen holding onto the front of the van with his feet raised while the van continued driving down the freeway. The man also yanked out the van's windscreen wiper during the altercation.
Police confirmed that the man eventually fell off the van and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 'It is believed both male occupants exited their vehicles and were involved in a physical altercation,' a police spokeswoman said. 'The driver of the Ford got back into his vehicle and whilst driving away the driver of the Nissan began holding onto the van.'
Traffic Disruption and Investigation
The incident caused significant disruption during peak hour, with two right lanes on the West Gate Freeway near the Burnley Tunnel entrance closed on Friday evening after the man's vehicle was left at the scene. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV or dashcam vision, to contact Crime Stoppers with further information.
